Vaccination

Vaccination

Vaccines immunize infants, children and teens from serious and harmful diseases. Young children are at high risk of getting affected by infectious diseases since their immune systems are not fully developed. Getting childhood vaccines help kids in developing their immunity against diseases before they come into contact with them. Vaccination does not only protect children themselves but also protects others. There is something known as community immunity in which vaccines help keep child’s younger siblings, older family members, and friends from getting sick too. Therefore it is very crucial that parents must take their children for vaccinations on time and follow the vaccination schedules. If any of the vaccines are skipped or delayed there high chances of a child or any family member to be infected by serious diseases.

Vaccination in India is carried out under the Universal immunization Program run by the Government. These are the necessary vaccines required to be given to all children. Apart from this The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) also has its own schedule containing additional vaccines which can be given after the doctor’s consultation. Their schedules are modified every few years so that new vaccination, if required, can also be added.
